Includes several example dialogs on how to talk to you kids about drugs at different ages. The book focuses on topics such as:

  • Start where you are and keep it simple

  • Break old patterns of co-dependence
  • Establish routines and structures
  • Set limits and follow through
  • Learn healthy communication skills

Having worked in the Addiction Treatment field for many years I know the value of this particular book as this is the ONLY book we recommended for Parents in Recovery!

Positive Discipline for Parenting in Recovery
Utilizing this book has been extremely effective in reaching parents, or someone in the caretaker role, who are in recovery. We have begun a parenting group, and the participants have stated this was the first book they've read that actually applies to them. They appreciate the easy-to-use "tools" to help them working with their children and have seen the results.

Many parents in recovery feel that texts don't address their specific challenges, or they attempt to give readers a "magic wand" that will fix their families. This book uses realistic, non-judgemental scenarios to illustrate both the difficulties of parenting in recovery and the Positive Discipline tools that will help to rebuild relationships, trust and communication in these highly discouraged families. The parents I work with say it is one of the most useful gifts they have ever received.
